Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome back to the instrumental program at Rockburn Elementary. We are going to have another wonderful year! Please mark your calendars: The Winter Concert date is in the works (January 2018) and the Spring Concert will be May 30 at Long Reach High School.
We will be starting lessons next week (Sept. 11 – Sept. 15). Please look at the schedule on the back (bottom) of this sheet. If your e-mail address has changed, you have a new address/phone number or you are new to Rockburn, please contact me ASAP so that I may change/add it on my list. My e-mail address is still [email protected].
All band and orchestra students should come to their first lesson without books or folders. I will be passing out new folders at this lesson. If your child is worried because they have lost some skills from lack of practice over the summer, please let them know that the first few weeks back we will start slow and review a lot of the material they learned last year. No worries! I will help them get back into the groove of things.
All 4th grade orchestra students are continuing Essential Elements 2000 book 1 for Strings and all 5th grade band students are continuing Essential Elements 2000 book 1 for Band
5th grade ORCHESTRA students need to purchase Essential Elements 2000 – Book 2 if they have not already done so.
Students who are in the instrumental program for 5th grade will be expected to continue on their 4th grade instrument choice. Please contact me ASAP if your child does not wish to participate at all this year. (Please note that the instrumental program is very sequential. Example: 6th band students will be in their 3rd year of playing while 6th orchestra students will be in their 4th year of playing. Students should not discontinue if they wish to play in middle/high school. )
I am really looking forward to working with your child again. We are going to have a very exciting year. If your child is new to the school or program and/or you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at 410-313-5030 or e-mail me at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Margaret Twigg
