ROCKBURN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC DEPARTMENT
September 2, 2011
Welcome back to the instrumental program at Rockburn Elementary. We are going to have another wonderful year! I will post our Winter and Spring Concert dates as soon as they are finalized.
We will be starting lessons next week (September 6 - 9). The schedule for the next two weeks of school is on the back of this letter as well as a copy sent to the e-mail address I used for you last year. If your e-mail address has changed or you have a new address/phone number, please contact me so that I may change it on my list. My e-mail address is still firstname.lastname@example.org.
All band and orchestra students should come to their first section lesson with their instrument, folder/book and pencil. If your child has been practicing from a “fun” book, they should bring that also. If your child is worried because they have lost some skills from lack of practice over the summer, please let the know that the first few weeks back we will start slow and review a lot of the material they learned last year. No worries!... I will help them get back into the groove of things.
All 4th grade orchestra students are using Essential Elements 2000 for Strings and all 5th grade band students are using Essential Elements 2000 for Band. If you have not already done so, please consider getting your child a metronome and tuner. (Many music stores have a metro-tune… combination metronome and tuner… for less than purchasing them separately.)
5th grade orchestra students need to purchase Essential Elements 2000 – Book 2.
If a 4th grade orchestra student wishes to switch to a band instrument, they (and you) must contact me before switching. This is a very important decision. I recommendthey continue with their string instrument to enhance the skills they initiated last year. Students who decide to participate in the instrumental program in 5th grade will be expected to continue on their 4th grade instrument choice. Please contact me ASAP if your child does not wish to participate at all this year. (Please note that once you drop out you will not have the opportunity to join back up for the instrumental program is very sequential.)
I am really looking forward to working with your child again. We are going to have a very exciting year. If your child is new to the school or program and/or you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at 410-313-5030 or e-mail me at email@example.com.
